A Buddy Bag is a way to address weekend food insecurity and hunger among children. A bag of groceries will be given to elementary students on Friday to help them eat on the weekend. As this program is just beginning we are targeting a school with a high free/reduced lunch rate, in this case, Elwood Haynes(nearly 80% free/reduced lunch). We expect about 300 students to sign-up this year(2008-2009). All children receiving bags will remain anonymous to us, showing respect for the student.
